About the Festival

The 2008 Slab Creek Music Festival--August 29th- September 1st, 2008

The History
Craig Stewart launched the Slab Creek Music Festival in 2002, to provide an opportunity for people to get together and spend an entire long-weekend devoted entirely to the celebration of making music. Craig’s experiment quickly became a favorite yearly event for most everyone who has attended. Lupe and Jim Alan currently organize the festival. Our mission is to create a supportive environment in which people of all ages and abilities can celebrate our collective creativity through the exploration, creation, learning and performance of music of all genres

The Basics
Start and End times
The festival has a very relaxed format. We start Saturday at 11:00 am with an interactive orientation gathering. Each day there is full-camp gathering. The festival ends after site cleanup (about 1:00pm) on Monday. Please do not plan on leaving before 1:00pm on Monday as we need everyone to help clean up!

Workshops
Immediately after the Orientation on Saturday we break for a short lunch and then jump right into afternoon workshops. We have music-focused workshops and other activities including art projects and others that change yearly. On Sunday we have what we call “Inspired Activities” which will be presented at the daily meeting. Inspired Activities have ranged from a hike up Cascade Head, to people singing rounds, to multiple jam sessions, hula hoping, gymnastics and a slack line (like a tight rope).

If you have a workshop or inspired activity that you would like to share at the festival, please contact the festival planning team ASAP at info@slabcreekmusicfestival

Performing
In addition to workshops there are several opportunities to perform at the festival. First, there is the Café Stage, which is open all day Saturday and Sunday. The Café Stage works on a sign-up basis.
Second, we have a performance on Saturday evening for festival participants on the Auditorium Stage. All the music performed on Saturday is original music. If you have an original song or songs that you would like to perform on Saturday night, please contact us at info@slabcreekmusicfestival to reserve your spot. Finally, we have a public performance on Sunday night, again in the Auditorium Stage, which is a fund raiser for the Neskowin Valley School.
Both evening performances are recorded and the music is made available to participants in MP3 format on the Community Pages of this website.

Dancing, Campfires and Jamming
After the evening performance on Saturday there is a Dance jam. On both Saturday and Sunday night music continues around the campfire, in the Center and in the auditorium ‘til dawn.
